Dominic Gill of the award winning documentary Take A Seat

Last weekend I got to go to the Banff Mountain Film Festival here in Boone, NC in Farthing Auditorium. I had never been to anything like this before. The enthusiasm of the crowd seemed more appropriate for a rock concert than a film screening. All I had heard were good things but I still didn’t know what to expect. After going once I want to try to go every year from now on if I can make it. Here is the preview that was played before the films both nights…

Dominic Gill made a documentary of himself riding a tandem bike all the way from the top of Alaska to the bottom of South America. Saturday at 3pm, Dominic met with interested folks at Footsloggers to answer questions and tell stories. I got there a little early to see if I could squeeze in a little shoot with him. He is a very nice, funny, intelligent, and needless to say well traveled person. Not too hard on the eyes either…

Thanks to Robert Franklin for your help with this!

Jerry from New Orleans!

This is Jerry. Adam Sikora and I met him today. He is a home owner in New Orleans being assisted by Project Homecoming. Adam and I are down here shooting for the new Project Homecoming website. We are staying with my friend Vann who is pictured below. We have had so much fun shooting around town. We are learning a lot about what has happened here and what is being done about it. Most everyone is very friendly, except the people that end up behind me while driving. Lots of one way streets. Very confusing.

LEGO Digital Blue Product Review

I just got this point and shoot LEGO digital camera from Urban Outfitters today. I have been curious about it for a while and have found very little info about it online and couldn’t find any actual photos that were taken with the camera. I decided to get one for myself and test it out. These are some of the first photos that I’ve taken with the camera.

This camera is intended for ages 7 and up. It is very easy to use. It’s 3 MP, has a 1.5″ LCD screen on the back, built-in flash, a fixed focus lens, and comes with a USB cable for dumping the photos as well as charging the camera. There is no card. The camera holds over 300 photos at a time. You just dump, delete, and keep shooting. Lightroom told me that it shoots at 1/30 sec @ f/3. I much prefer to shoot without the flash. It is way too powerful and blows everything out unless you are far away from the subject. In the future I will put something over the flash to diffuse it.

Something unique about this camera is that you can add your own LEGO pieces to the top and bottom. I want to get myself a little LEGO man to put on top. Hope this helps others that are interested!

Will Ferrell on the set of The Other Guys

I was recently in NYC for a few days with some fellow Appalachian State University students for the PDN Photo Plus Expo. From the window of the loft we could watch the movie The Other Guys being filmed. I had no idea who was in it while I was shooting but after cropping in to one of my shots, I saw Will Ferrell. The Other Guys also stars Mark Wahlberg and is set to come out in 2010.
